Choosing a tiara can be a daunting task - there are so many types and styles available, aside from the alternative forms of jewellery (circlets, hairpins, hairpieces and so on). We suggest that you keep a few key factors in mind but essentially choose the tiara which really "does it for you". Initially consider your wedding dress (style, colour and shape), your hairstyle (though this could follow your choice of tiara) and the shape of your face.
Your Wedding Dress
Think about your wedding dress when selecting a tiara style or other jewellery and accessories. Try to match the accents of your gown with your tiara. If your gown boasts floral or similar detail, try to find a headpiece that has similar details. Remember if you have fabric swatches we could always attempt a bespoke piece to match (see our bespoke service). If your gown features Swarovski crystals or other semi-precious stones, your tiara could be designed to match those features. Crystals and some stones can also be died to match fabrics - so bear this in mind if your dress is really unusual.
Cream, ivory and similar dresses are well complemented by cream or ivory freshwater pearls (see the Bella tiara or Anastasia tiara as examples). Choose silver or gold to wear with a diamond-white dress (according to other jewellery you may be wearing). The Samara and Iced Caviar are worth considering. If you're worried about over-doing it or finding an exact match, bear in mind that Swarovski crystal tiaras will suit almost any gown - consider the Tiffany, Grace, Solaris or Eloise.
By finding a tiara that suits your dress you will transform the outfit into something truly breathtaking.
Your Hairstyle
Make an appointment with your hairdresser and talk through some options with them - tell them the type of hairpiece you have in mind and they can suggest hairstyles that will work with tiaras, circlets, feathered hair jewellery and more. The right hairstyle can really flatter a tiara's shape and style.
Start speaking with your hairdresser as soon as possible so you know styles which will suit your hair type. Whether you want your hair up or down - or its thickness - may affect your choice of head jewellery. Feel free to email us for advice if you're unsure and we can speak directly with your hairdresser if necessary.
If you are uncomfortable with a formal hairstyle, why not consider your normal Saturday night hairdo? Why stray from this look just because you see more formal brides in magazines? Go with what works for you!!
Your Face
You can make your face appear longer and thinner by choosing a tiara which boasts height; whereas a peaked tiara may not suit those brides with oval faces. Tiaras with little or no height and a uniform design will complement a long face and full faces can be enhanced by a tiara with a very exaggerated peak.
Antique or Modern?
Again, consider the design of your gown. An antique style gown will look best with an antique style tiara. A more modern gown would require a tiara more in keeping with its style. The choices are never-ending. Our bespoke jewellery can incorporate almost any feature you desire. Arches, points and spikes, floral motifs, simple and sleek or completely crazy! Beads, crystals, pearls and other semi-precious stones, paper, porcelain or silk flowers, silver and gold. They all provide stunning looks.
